Facts you should
know about Coconuts...
 |
Coconut milk
fat is comprised of medium chain fatty acids. MCFA are a unique
form of saturated fat that is easily metabolized by the body,
unlike long-chain fatty acids found in foods such as meat
products. |
 |
The oil
found in coconut milk is one of the few sources of MCFA-which
have a positive effect on improving cholesterol profiles and
helps protect against heart disease and atherosclerosis.
|
 |
The medium
chain fatty acids in coconut milk contain an active
anti-microbial ingredient called monolaurin. Monolaurin has
been shown in numerous studies to be effective against a variety
of bacteria, viruses and fungal infections.
|
 |
Coconut milk
is made from the meat of mature coconuts. It is not be confused
with the watery liquid found inside the nut. This liquid, when
found in a young coconut is more unambiguously referred to as
"coconut water" or "coconut juice".
|
 |
The
scientific name for coconut is Cocos nucifera. Early Spanish
explorers called it coco, which means "monkey face" because the
three indentations (eyes) on the hairy nut resemble the head and
face of a monkey. Nucifera means "nut-bearing."
